Injecting Dissent into Wikipedia
April 28th, 2007Trying to tone down the self-congradulations at the Wikipedia articles for AmericaSpeaks. Wikipedia, another idea that is not quite right, when you look at it from the perspective of a person who is effected by the information it disseminates.
Not quite right.
I can’t possibly compete with the millions that AmericaSpeaks has to produce advertising copy. How do you find a middle road view based on the advertising copy that people will cut and paste into the AmericaSpeaks article?

hey alan - i wish i could agree with you that americaspeaks has millions to throw at advertising copy. the wikipedia article was drafted by a colleague at AS. Among the requirements that made the town meeting process so costly in NOLA was the need to engage displaced residents in other cities. Another significant aspect was the level of recruitment necessary to get a representative sample. Not to say these are reasons for you to feel like you “got your money’s worth,” but certainly important cost factors. What I think is important is that six months ago the city did not have a recovery plan. Today the city council passed the UNOP plan unanimously, if not without some reserve. This is an important discussion - thanks for raising it up.
